Air India has become the first Indian airline to implement the New Distribution Capability (NDC), a technology designed to streamline flight bookings and offer a more tailored experience. By adopting the latest 21.3 NDC schema from the International Air Transport Association (IATA), Air India is set to transform how it sells tickets and related services, making the process more personalized for both leisure and business travelers.
NDC, an advanced XML-based standard, enables travel agents to access a wider range of services, including exclusive flight deals, add-ons, and customized packages, all in real-time. This allows Air India to offer more flexible options, creating a more efficient and user-friendly booking experience. The system benefits not only customers but also travel partners, who can now provide enhanced services and tailored travel experiences to their clients.
Nipun Aggarwal, Chief Commercial Officer at Air India, highlighted the importance of this upgrade, stating, “Implementing NDC is a significant milestone for Air India as we continue to innovate and enhance our distribution strategy. Our goal is to provide a seamless and efficient booking experience for our travel partners and customers.”
This move aligns with Air India’s broader strategy to modernize its operations and compete on a global scale. By adopting NDC, the airline is better positioned to meet the evolving needs of travelers, offering more options and greater transparency throughout the booking process.
